Heater hose on 2008 Chevy silverado broke, is this a common thing to happen to this truck? (Using my bfs account to post)
Recently while driving my 2008 chevy Silverado 5.3 flex fuel, (200,113 miles) I was on my way home and my oil light started flashing. I went to autozone and purchased oil and added some. The following day while driving home I got off the freeway and was almost home and my truck’s temperature went all the way to the right and white steam started to pour out from under my hood and behind the cab. I thought my truck was on fire for a minute, but it was coolant pouring out. I was one light away and I made it back thankfully.
Later I looked and saw that the heater hose at the quick connect had broken off somehow. I know I never touched the hose putting oil in. But he swears I broke the hose and am lying about this. And that there is no way this hose broke on its own. It had to have been me.
Is this a common issue on Chevy /GMC trucks for the hose to randomly break? I have attached a photo of my hose.
It’s a 17 year old truck with 200k miles. Not sure how common this is, but I’d say to expect virtually anything to break on it sooner or later. Good luck with the repair!
How the fuck would you manage to break a heater hose while topping up oil? Is he on crack? Also look at all the disintegrating wire looms. Seriously. It’s a 2000s Chevy. They stopped accidentally making vehicles that last forever sometime in the 80s.
Take the connector off and push the hose straight onto the heater hose pipe and use a new screw clamp and it’s fixed and doesn’t have the weak link to break.
You’ll soon learn that these are Quick Connectors, designed to speed up the vehicle manufacturing process—but they’re not quick to disconnect or ideal for maintenance and replacement.
