It’s starting to drive me insane; every time it rains (basically every day), the rear floor gets wet, so I replaced the brake light because it seemed to have fixed everyone else’s leak, but it didn’t work for me; dealership said they couldn’t find anything wrong, and I looked at it myself and everything looks fine.
Because the floors are full of channels, it is normal for the leak to be at the front, with the water running under the carpet and collecting in the back. It can be difficult to find the source of the leak. Get in the trunk with a flashlight and close it, then have someone spray the outside while you look for leaks. Repeat the process beneath the dash. If it has a sunroof, pay close attention to the drains.
You know that rubber strip on the roof? Check it for holes, and inspect the bottom of your back doors for evidence of water intrusion.
I may have neglected some items when checking my car, so I’ll take another look as soon as I can, but immediately before I climbed in the car to go to work, I had a peek at the roof, and there are channels for water drainage, but there is no rubber stripping in those channels.
I’ll look at the other Malibus. I check to see if they have those rubber things, and I’ll also take a closer look at the other weather stripping.
