I have a 2022 Chevy Silverado with 23,000 miles and a minor accident from 12 months ago. I recently had a starter motor issue and took it to the dealer where I bought it. They informed me that it was still under bumper-to-bumper coverage and that I wouldn’t need to pay anything. However, after completing the work, they told me that the accident has invalidated the warranty. The truck has a clean title and the Carfax report indicates a minor accident. I feel like I’m being scammed—shouldn’t they have mentioned this when I first brought the truck in? Is the warranty actually void due to a minor accident, especially since the main issue was with the starter?
If the vehicle were salvaged, it wouldn’t be covered by the warranty. However, a minor accident should not impact the warranty.
Was the starter affected by the accident?
This is a straightforward issue. Public records can quickly reveal if the title is marked as salvage, rebuilt, or anything else by checking the VIN. If it’s a salvage vehicle, then the warranty would indeed be void.
If you’d like, you can send me the VIN. With my 34 years of experience in dealership operations and as a service manager at a Chevrolet store, I can determine the status in just a few minutes.
You might want to keep trying other stores or escalate the issue with the current one.
If that’s your only option, consider contacting the general manager. You could also reach out to Chevy corporate, although it may not lead to a resolution.
This is quite common with Chevy dealerships. Contact an attorney right away.
