Would you buy a 2014 Caprice with 180k+ miles?

I have found a 2014 Chevy Caprice PPV in what seems to be pretty decent condition inside and out. The only thing is, it’s got a bit over 180k miles. It’s a steal price-wise, but I’m wondering what you’d look out for with this model, given the mileage? Would you go for it?

I’d make sure the motor was rebuilt at some point. 180k miles plus whatever idle hours it’s got means it’s probably had a hard life. Also, check the transmission—if that’s in good shape, you might be in the clear.

@Jules
The motor hasn’t been rebuilt yet. The car came straight from the state troopers. It’s got 2600 idle hours and 6000 engine hours on it.

With 6000 engine hours and 180k miles, it sounds like it’s been used mostly on highways, which isn’t too bad. I’ve seen Caprices with fewer miles but more engine hours, so this one could still have some life left.

@Parker
Yeah, that’s what got me interested. Would you personally go for it?

For me, probably not. 180k is still a lot, even if they’re highway miles. But if you’re planning to mod it and not use it as a daily driver, I might consider it for the right price.

If it’s maintained properly, it could still be a good buy. Just be prepared to rebuild the motor eventually. But at that price, I’d say go for it if you’re ready for some work down the line.

Personally, I’d be looking for one with fewer miles—like around 100k if you can find it. But if you’re just gonna use it as a second car or project car, I’d say why not, especially if the price is really good.

Honestly, these Caprices are built tough, so as long as it’s been maintained, you might be alright. But yeah, expect to invest in some engine work eventually.
