My 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 with a 5.3 liter engine has been spitting, sputtering, and backfiring lately. I’ve already changed the crank sensor and the cam sensor, did a full tune-up, and checked the fuel pressure, which is good at 60 psi. I’m really at a loss for what else it could be. Any ideas or suggestions?
Have you checked your ignition coils? A bad coil can cause sputtering and misfires. Since you’ve already done a tune-up, that’s definitely worth a look.
I’d also recommend checking the MAF (mass airflow) sensor and throttle body. A dirty or faulty MAF sensor can cause similar issues. Try cleaning it first and see if that helps.
Could be an exhaust issue, especially if it’s backfiring. Maybe a clogged catalytic converter or bad O2 sensors? Both can mess with the engine’s performance.
Have you looked into your spark plug wires? Even after a tune-up, if the wires are worn or damaged, they can still cause misfires. Cheap fix if that’s the issue.

Good call, I didn’t replace the plug wires during the tune-up. I’ll take a look at those next.
You might want to check the fuel injectors. Even though your fuel pressure is good, a clogged or malfunctioning injector could still cause misfires and backfiring.
