2000 Blazer dipstick not accurate

Got a 2000 Blazer and I changed the filter and drained the original oil and added 5 qt. But when I go to check the dipstick, it reads almost empty. Any ideas why?

Did you pre-fill the oil filter before installing it and did you make sure to re-install the drain plug?

4.7L V6

Well there’s your problem - they never came with a 4.7 in them.

Yes. I’ve started and drove it around the block a few times. Still got next to nothing.

There is a chance it is the wrong dipstick. I do not recall if a part number is stamped on it.

Yeah probably just the wrong dipstick.

You need 6 quarts with the filter on that one if I’m not mistaken. Check your owners manual and add another quart if it needs it then check it again. It could also have the wrong dipstick in it. If that’s the case you can get a new one or use something to mark where the oil is when it has the proper amount in it.
