2012 IMPALA LTZ / hard shifts / Hesitation in shifts

Hello everyone,

I’m having some issues with my car and need some advice. I’m seeing these symptoms:

  • No specific codes except for P0700 and U0101, which appear after missed shifts.
  • The ABS sensor wire on the front passenger side is ripped out, triggering ABS/Traction Control/Stabilitrak lights.
  • A small leak at the transmission cooler line fitting, though I keep the fluid levels topped up.
  • “Trans Hot Idle Engine” message appeared after a 40-mile drive; fluid was low but added more without further issues, except for odd shifting.

Here are my questions:

  1. Could the ripped ABS sensor wire be causing the shifting issues?
  2. Is the transmission likely going bad at 150k miles, or could it be something else?
  3. How critical is it to fix the ABS sensor if I’m considering parting with the car?
  4. Could the small leak at the transmission cooler line be contributing to the problem?
  5. What could cause the “Trans Hot Idle Engine” message, and how should I address it?

Thanks for any insights!

It sounds like a few things could be causing your shifting problems. The ripped ABS sensor wire might be affecting your transmission, and the small leak at the cooler line could be a part of it too. With 150k miles, your transmission might be wearing out, but low fluid or overheating could also be factors. Fixing the ABS sensor and the leak should help, and make sure to keep an eye on your transmission fluid level.

This car still has the same problems we had when we started back in July 2021.

The car drives fine then feels like it loses gears then will drive fine again with no issues, it will lose gears when slowing down to turn or stop but then they all just come back and it drives fine?
