I bought a 2024 Chevy Trailblazer in April, and when I first got it, my miles till empty was around 330 miles. But each time I fill up, the miles till empty keeps dropping. After I filled up today, it showed 298 miles on a full tank. I’m just wondering if this is normal or if the miles till empty reading isn’t accurate. Should I be concerned or is this just how it works?
The miles till empty calculation depends heavily on driving habits. Things to look at: weather conditions, has it been hotter or colder? Also, are you driving more in the city or on the highway? That can make a difference too.

Yeah, it’s been hotter lately, and I think I’ve been doing more city driving. Didn’t realize that could impact it.

Yep, both of those factors can definitely affect your gas mileage. City driving uses more gas, and hot weather can also mess with the calculation a bit. Nothing to stress about if that’s the case.
Your car’s system will adjust based on how you drive over time. That 330 miles when you first got the car might have been an optimistic estimate. Now it’s learning your driving patterns. Don’t worry too much about it unless you notice a huge drop in actual performance.
@Noel
so i’m not losing out on gas each time i fill up?

Nope, you’re not losing gas. The system just makes estimates based on your driving style. If you’ve been driving more in stop-and-go traffic or in hotter weather, it adjusts accordingly. If your gas tank is still lasting as long as it should, you’re good.
Not I, I’m getting around 20-22 mpg with a 21 Suburban 5.3 V8. My trick is driving at around 50 mph with cruise control on whenever I can.

That’s a good tip, maybe I’ll give that a try. I’ve been doing a lot of stop-and-go lately, which might be part of the issue.
