Hey everyone! I just got a 2025 1.3L Chevy Trailblazer LS a couple of weeks ago. I’m loving it so far, but I’ve noticed something odd… When I shift from reverse to drive, there’s this lag and sometimes it lurches forward. My old car (a 2015 Kia Soul) used to shift instantly, so this feels weird to me. I’ve tried turning off the auto engine stop/start, but it’s still happening. Should I be worried, or is this just normal for this model? Also, the engine sounds kinda different compared to what I’m used to…
It’s got a 3-cylinder engine, so it’s going to sound different. My 2022 Malibu also has that delay when shifting from reverse to drive, and it sometimes clunks. I think it’s normal, but if it’s bugging you, maybe have a dealer check it while it’s still under warranty.
@Orin
Thanks! That does make me feel a bit better. I’m probably just overthinking, but I might bring it up during its first service if I’m not used to it by then.
If your car has a CVT, try coming to a complete stop before shifting from reverse to drive. Go R > N > D with a smooth, easy pull. Don’t rush it while still moving.

Good tip, I’ll give that a try! Thanks
Quick question… do you have AWD?

Nope, mine is the FWD version. Would that make a difference?

A bit, yeah. AWD systems can sometimes behave differently, but since yours is FWD, it’s more likely just how the CVT works. Still worth keeping an eye on it.
Honestly, if you’re noticing a pattern with the lag, I’d mention it during your service appointment. If it’s under warranty, might as well have them check it out.

True, no harm in getting it checked. Thanks for the advice!
New cars can have a break-in period, but if the lag feels unsafe, definitely talk to the dealer. It could just be normal CVT behavior though!

I’m hoping it’s just a matter of getting used to it. I’ll bring it up if it keeps happening. Appreciate the insight!
