Any idea or estimate on how much a new shift control costs with labor? My car’s been acting up, and I’m trying to get a ballpark number before heading to the shop. Any help?
I paid around $300-400 for mine last year, including labor. Depends on the car though. What are you driving?

It’s a 2014 Altima. Hoping it doesn’t hit the high end of that range, lol.

Yeah, for a 2014 Altima, you might be looking at $350-400. That’s what my cousin paid recently.
What exactly is wrong with the shift control? Just curious, because sometimes it’s not the whole part that needs replacing.

It’s sticking and doesn’t always go into gear smoothly. I’m guessing the whole thing’s shot, but IDK for sure yet.

Got it. Could be a linkage issue too. Definitely worth getting a full diagnosis before replacing the whole thing.
Is shift control the same as the gear selector? Sorry, I’m not super familiar with car terms.

Yeah, basically. It’s the part that lets you shift gears. When it goes bad, shifting can get rough or not work at all.

I think some people call it the gear shifter too. Same idea though.
Might wanna check if it’s covered under warranty first. Some parts have extended coverage, especially on Nissans.

Good point! I’ll look into that. Didn’t even think about checking the warranty, tbh.
Labor costs can add up fast. If you’re mechanically inclined, you could try sourcing the part and DIY-ing it. Might save a couple hundred bucks.
