Are Chevy Malibus actually any good?

I’m looking for a cheap new car and found a 2022 Malibu LT for $17k. The dealer is a friend, so I might get a little off. I need a reliable car that can last 200k+ miles without major issues. My previous cars lasted long, but Japanese prices are climbing. Are Chevys like the Malibu worth it for long-term use?

The 1.5L Ecotec engine in these can easily reach 250k miles.

I have a 2016 Malibu LTZ with over 276k miles. Just regular wear and tear, nothing major.

I bought a 2024 Malibu RS and it’s great! The 1.5L engine is solid now, and I get around 34.5 mpg.

I have a 2022 Malibu and it’s been terrible. The CVT has issues and Apple CarPlay disconnects a lot.

Sounds like a GM experience—might not be great, but it’ll probably last a long time.

I have a 2023 model with no problems.

I love my 2018 Malibu Premier with the 2.0L engine. It’s fast and fun to drive.

I’ve had three Malibus over the years, and my first two have over 340k miles still going strong.
