Hey everyone, I have a 2017 4 Cylinder LT Camaro with push to start. I’ve had it for a while and just recently figured out I have remote start. When I lock the car twice and push the remote start button, the lights turn on, indicating that it caught the signal, but it will not start. The car is fine mechanically, has gas, the battery tested fine, and both the remote and the car are picking up the signals. Any help would mean a lot, thanks.
If there are any DTCs set, remote start won’t work. It needs to be taken to a shop that can properly look at the scan tool data to see what remote start is being disabled and diagnose the issue.

What are DTCs? I’m not super familiar with car stuff.
@Taylor
DTCs are Diagnostic Trouble Codes. They help identify issues with the car. If there’s an error, the remote start feature might be disabled for safety.
Any proper mechanic (not one of those quick lube places) can run a scanner on your OBD2 port and pull codes from your car’s ECU (the computer). If there’s an error stored, the car will not allow you to remote start.
@Zion
So basically, if the check engine light is on, it won’t let you use remote start? Got it.

Exactly, if there’s something wrong, it won’t let you do it for safety reasons.
You might need to take it to a dealer or a trusted mechanic who can handle this. They’ll have the tools to find out what’s wrong.

Is a dealer the only option? Can’t I just go to any auto shop?
@Ollie
You can go to any good mechanic, just make sure they’re trustworthy. They should have the right equipment to check for those codes.
Sounds frustrating. Have you checked if the battery in the remote is good? Sometimes that can cause issues too.

Yeah, I did check the battery. It seems fine because the remote is working with the car.
Oh, that got deleted… anyway, I hope you find a solution soon. It’s always annoying when technology doesn’t work right.
