Chevy Colorado ZR2 2024 Mechanical Failure

I bought my 2024 ZR2 Colorado about two weeks ago and have been driving it pretty gently. After about 561 miles, I took it to the dealer because I heard a weird noise in the rear when turning right. Turns out, it was nothing—probably just a box of stuff shifting in the backseat.

But, while driving home, the truck started lurching whenever I accelerated over 50mph, and it got progressively worse—happening at 45mph, then 30mph. I pulled into a parking lot and called the dealer, and they suggested I try driving it back. Almost made it, but while going up a small hill at about 24mph, the truck shook violently, and a bunch of lights came on—traction control, engine, transmission, you name it. I had to stop, and the engine was shaking so hard it felt like it was vibrating the entire cab.

I called the dealer, and they sent a tow truck. It’s been at the shop for 5 days now. Yesterday, they said they updated the ECM, but they didn’t inspect the engine or transmission. They’re holding onto it for a few more days to see if it acts up again.

Has anyone else experienced this? The dealership seems stumped. Any ideas on what could be going on?

It could be a grounding issue. GM often paints everything, including the grounds, which can cause problems. Cleaning the grounds solved a lot of quirks for me.

Once I cleaned the grounds, everything ran perfectly!

@Briar
Here’s a pic of it on the flatbed. Even when it’s broken down, it still looks great, haha.

Sounds like it could be an electrical issue. Updating the ECM was a good first step. I’d also suggest checking for loose fuses or bad grounds. Dealerships are seeing more random electrical problems with the newer Colorados, but they’re getting better at handling them.

Had a similar issue after replacing the serpentine belt on my 2018 ZR2. It started shaking, lights came on, and it seemed like the engine was done for. Turned out the air tube wasn’t seated properly on the throttle body. Once I fixed that, everything was back to normal.

Had the same issue with my Trail Boss. It was a fuel injector problem, and GM released a new part to fix it. They replaced four injectors on my truck, and it’s running fine now.

Update: The dealership techs drove it around, and I just got two OnStar emails saying a critical issue with the engine and transmission was detected. The Chevy app is also showing engine and transmission warnings, but I haven’t heard from the dealership yet—probably due to the Verizon cell service outage.
