Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain... which one to choose?

Would you recommend the Chevy Equinox or the GMC Terrain? My mother is looking to purchase one or the other, and I’d love to steer her correctly if possible. I know this is a Chevy sub, but please try to be unbiased. Thank you in advance!

I prefer Chevy. Check both out. I think the difference is that the Equinox has a traditional gear shifter while the Terrain has a push-button gear shift. Not sure if that carried over to the 2025 models. I like the traditional gear shifter better. Both are acceptable vehicles though. I have a 2020 and a 2024 Equinox, and I haven’t had any problems so far. Good gas mileage and acceptable acceleration, but others might think they’re underpowered. A good test drive should help you decide what feels right for you.

Very helpful, thank you.

You’re welcome. My neighbor, who’s in his 70s, just got a 2024 Terrain because the dealer didn’t have an Equinox with the features he wanted. He told me he’s forgotten to push the button to put it in park a few times already. Apparently, if you forget to do it, the vehicle will park itself.

They’re alright, are you looking for something brand new?

Yes, 2025.

The 2025 is the first year of a total redesign, and those are usually not the best to buy right away.

That was my thought. My grandma always told me to never buy the first model of something, and it really stuck. It makes sense, since they haven’t found potential issues that could be problematic yet. I think I’m going to push her to GMC.

The GMC Terrain is also all new for 2025. If they’ve decided this is the vehicle they want, it might be better to buy a 2025 and deal with minor issues than to get the last generation.

I wouldn’t buy a '25. It’s the first year of the redesign, and they usually need to work out the kinks. It might be better to pre-order (if that’s an option) or wait for a '26.
