Hey guys, I’m in a bit of a bind. My key is stuck in the ignition of my 2008 Chevy Uplander and it won’t come out. It’s stuck in the power-on mode just before the crank, and I can’t get it to go back to the default position. I’ve been searching YouTube for a solution, but I can’t seem to find any release switch or button like some other models have. I’ve already removed the bottom cover, but I can’t figure out how to get this stop/dump design out of the way. I can only shut the car off by pulling the IGN MAIN relay to kill the engine. I tried removing the fuel pump relay first, but it didn’t work, and the car ran for 10 minutes before finally shutting down. I’m worried my battery will drain since the key is in the power-on position. Any suggestions on what to do next?
Have you tried checking the shift interlock system? Sometimes if the car doesn’t recognize that it’s in park, it won’t release the key. Try jiggling the shifter in and out of park to see if that helps.
I’ve seen this happen with a faulty ignition lock cylinder. If the cylinder is worn out, it won’t rotate back fully. You might need to replace the ignition lock to fix the issue.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll try tapping the key and messing with the steering wheel to see if it loosens.
You could try disconnecting the battery to see if that resets the system and releases the key. Just remember to follow the proper steps when reconnecting it. Worth a shot if you haven’t tried it yet.
