Engine Code 0010 on My 2015 Equinox LT – DIY Fix?

Hi everyone,

I have a 2015 Equinox LT. Recently, I spent around $1,000 fixing one engine issue, and now I’ve got another problem. While driving, my engine light came on. I used my Fixd scanner, and it came up with the code 0010.

I can’t get to my mechanic until Wednesday morning, but I’m wondering if this might be something my husband can tackle on his own? He’s done some light car maintenance, and I’m really hoping to avoid this becoming an even pricier repair.

Any advice, video links, or tips would be super helpful!

Hey, that code usually points to an issue with the camshaft position actuator. Common on Equinoxes around that year. If your husband is comfortable with basic car repairs, this might be manageable as a DIY.

Thanks, that’s good to know! Do you think it’s safe to drive until I get it fixed, or better to leave it parked?

If it’s driving normally, you’re probably okay for short distances, but I’d avoid long trips. Also, if the engine starts to run rough or has trouble idling, better to park it.

You could check the wiring and connectors to the camshaft position sensor. Sometimes they get dirty or loose and cause this kind of issue.

Thanks! I’ll have him check that out first. Any specific tools we’ll need?

@Rin
Just basic tools, really. A socket wrench set should do the trick. Some electrical cleaner spray could be handy too, if you see any dirt on the connectors.

If it’s the camshaft actuator, it might be a bit tricky depending on your husband’s comfort level with engine parts. Look up a tutorial video specifically for the 2015 Equinox LT; there are some good ones on YouTube.

@Jin
Awesome, I’ll check that out! I appreciate all the help.
