Has there been ANY update from Chevy or Apple about CarPlay issues?

So for more context behind the title, myself along with many other users (specifically Chevy and Toyota owners I believe) have experienced a massive bug with the Apple CarPlay system and the iOS 18 update. I personally own a 2019 2SS Camaro and have been having this issue: my phone plugs into the system for a wired connection, Apple CarPlay pops up, my music turns on for a couple of seconds, then freezes up all the controls for the screen. I can’t turn the volume up or down, and when it’s frozen the music stops playing regardless. The touch screen doesn’t work either, and then the screen resets, showing the Chevy logo like it’s just starting up my car. It pauses for a minute and then does the exact same thing once Apple CarPlay comes on. I called both Apple and Chevy, but neither were helpful. Apple made me reset my entire phone, which did nothing for the infotainment system but made it a bigger inconvenience for me to set my settings back where they were. Chevy told me to come into the dealership to run a diagnostic, but the fee was $150, and if others are dealing with the same issues, I’m not about to waste my money. A guy at my local auto shop told me to just wait for a software update from Chevy to accommodate the extensive update, which should hopefully resolve the capability issues. Super frustrating, but I was wondering if anyone (maybe someone who works in tech) could give some insight into what that timeframe looks like or if anything is being done in general.

Not sure what to tell you, but I have a 2018 Equinox and have been using the wired CarPlay connection on it without issue. Also got a ‘24 Subaru Crosstrek and wireless CarPlay works there too. That said, I haven’t seen any updates to the infotainment software on my Chevy since I bought it new, and it gets regular maintenance at the dealer.

That’s good to know! I was starting to think it was just me or my car.

Yeah, it seems like it varies. Given GM is basically ditching CarPlay for their own platform with Google in EVs and future models, I wouldn’t be optimistic that they’d work on fixing this.

Ugh, that’s super frustrating about GM ditching CarPlay. I loved it, but it makes sense why they wouldn’t rush to bring in a new software update. Unfortunately, I run in a Honda family, so I’m not able to test it on any Chevys. However, my mom (who also has the iOS 18 update) tried her phone in my car, and the same issue occurred. There’s a big Apple forum about the same issue happening, but we’ll just have to see what they do about it.

@Brett
Thanks for sharing! It’s nice to know I’m not alone in this.

It could be that only some of them are having the issue. Mine had it too, but my fix was to buy a USB wireless CarPlay adapter. It looks like it’s a 2019 SS/iOS 18 issue.

Interesting! I might look into that if it keeps happening.

I haven’t seen any issues with CarPlay on my 2020 or 2024 Equinox. I don’t use it for music though.

Lucky you! I wish mine would just work like that.

I have a 2024 Camaro and also have some occasional issues with wireless CarPlay where it freezes up when connecting. It shows weird coloration, but it always goes away within 5-10 minutes. I haven’t tried with a cord yet to see if wired works better.

@Oak
Good to know! I’ll have to try that too. I’m just over these issues.
