I purchased a 2024 Colorado LT and I love the thing. It’s such a huge upgrade from my ‘21 Colorado WT, which had zero features. When I was at the dealership making the deal, the salesperson and I got into the truck to take a look at it. We were going over all the features, and I mentioned how awesome it was to see a cruise control button on the wheel. The salesperson said that not only does it have cruise control, but it also has adaptive cruise control. She even showed me the buttons on the wheel to adjust the gaps, which seemed fully functional. After finishing the test drive, I signed the paperwork and left feeling super happy. However, after driving the truck for 2 days, I noticed that it didn’t adjust to slower vehicles in front of me when I tried to use the cruise control. I thought maybe I was missing a setting, so I checked the manual. The manual told me to hold the cruise cancel button to toggle between regular cruise and adaptive, but that didn’t work either. I called the salesperson to ask for help, and she called me back a couple of hours later. She left a voicemail, but I was busy at work, so I couldn’t respond right away. She then texted me saying, ‘I should have confirmed before I told you, but that truck does not have adaptive cruise at all.’ Now I’m pretty frustrated because I was looking forward to that feature, and it’s annoying to be told something that isn’t true. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? Do I have an argument to try to either A) have them add adaptive cruise free of charge or B) at least do something to make this right for me?
You would be surprised how many GM customers bring their vehicles in saying their adaptive cruise is inop on their new GM vehicle. It’s often because it doesn’t have it. A lot of them have the pre-collision alert distance button on the steering wheel, which is often mistaken for adaptive cruise.
Automatic pre-collision braking? Well, that’s sort of adaptive cruise if you’re brave.
I don’t think it can be added, so you might want to try for a dealer concession of some kind.
Honestly, you did no research. You relied on a salesperson to know what they are selling you. ACC and AEB are the death of freedom. You should be better prepared next time.
When I bought my Camaro, I had to sign something saying certain features aren’t available and I was okay with that. It’s frustrating to find out after the fact, though.
Never trust a salesperson on specs and features. More often than not, they have no clue. There’s usually a spec sheet with vehicle info in the paperwork for the sale. If the feature you mentioned was listed but not present, you might have a case.
It sounds like she showed you the collision braking feature and incorrectly linked it to the cruise control. That stinks.
I’d be upset and try to get something out of them, but honestly, I think adaptive cruise control is the shittiest feature on cars. I prefer regular cruise control anyway.
They aren’t going to add it. You can try for some kind of concession, but you might make life hard for that salesperson, and they could take it out on them.
That would be a deal breaker for me. I’d take it back if I were you.
When I bought my truck, I had a negotiation over a small amount and ended up getting a spray-in bed liner instead. Maybe you could ask for accessories like that instead of the cruise control.
This is exactly why you hire auto consultants if you know nothing about what you’re buying. It’s a good learning experience for future purchases.
In my opinion, adaptive cruise is one of the most useless features. You should be thankful to your salesperson for not having it.
