How to program 2013 Chevy Impala LT key fobs?

I recently purchased a 2013 Chevy Impala LT in good shape. It came with two keys and key fobs. I ordered batteries because neither of them worked. I changed out the old key fob, however the newer one requires a different battery. I’m awaiting the arrival of that one.

I guess I’ll have to program them again to make these function with my car. How can I go about doing that?

GM has never produced a key fob similar to the one on the bottom, which is for an aftermarket remote start/entry. Just curious as to why someone would equip a car with factory-installed remote start with an aftermarket unit. I assume that something else is causing the key fob to malfunction rather than the fob itself being the issue. Unless someone used a scan tool to unprogramme the key fob from the automobile, they don’t need to be reprogrammed in order to function.

According to my mechanic here’s how to program key fobs for a 2013 Chevy Impala LT:

  1. Sit in the car and close all doors.
  2. Insert the key into the ignition.
  3. Turn the key to “ON” (don’t start the car).
  4. Press and hold the “Unlock” button on the driver’s door.
  5. Insert and remove the key from the ignition three times quickly.
  6. Release the “Unlock” button.
  7. Hold both “Lock” and “Unlock” buttons on the key fob until the doors lock and unlock (about 15 seconds).
  8. Repeat step 7 for any additional key fobs within one minute.
  9. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
  10. Test the key fobs to ensure they work.

If this doesn’t work for you, you can check the owner’s manual or contact your local mechanic.
