If it’s a 4x4, keep a tight check on the transfer case. Those things prefer to crap out. These beasts’ transmission can also be somewhat cantankerous. However, I adore the 4.3L V6 engine. That’s a wonderful engine. It is identical to the larger block, with the exception of a handful of cylinders removed. Just make sure to keep up with the upkeep, and you’ll be golden! Also, keep in mind that the middle spark plug on the driver’s side is difficult to remove due to the steering column. I believe you did well with your buy!
Yeah it was quite a struggle trying to replace the spark plugs myself. Thanks for the advice!
I drove an Oldsmobile Bravada from the same year as my first car. The machine lasted until 200k miles when the engine stopped as my younger brother attempted to go past 100 mph. She’s a tank, and you bought it for a bargain. Congratulation.
My friend experienced something quite similar to this. It had over 200k miles on it (probably closer to 300), and he would simply beat the crap out of it, and it refused to die on him. He had a smashed glass and a busted tail light, as well as a coolant leak, so he was going down the road with smoke everywhere. We used to nickname it the “steamboat.” He pulled up next to me at a stoplight late at night, and when he came to a halt, a massive plume of smoke rolled directly into the junction.
That being said, treat this device with respect, and it will serve you well.
@WilliamTaylor Will do. Good to hear she can last that long! A lot longer than I can…
