I’m checking out a super clean 2013 Chevy Malibu, selling for $8,500 with 92,000 miles on it. The dealer says it still has a powertrain warranty up to 100,000 miles. What do you guys think … is it a bad idea to buy?
Just a heads-up, those warranties usually have a time limit too, like 8 or 10 years, which would’ve passed by now.
If it’s the 2.5L engine without a turbo or auto-stop, it should be solid. Make sure you check for service records and use a code-reader before buying.
You can ask the seller to show you a Carfax report—it’s not too expensive. Be cautious with aftermarket lights and sunroofs. If you see those, I’d say walk away.
I’ve got a base 2013 Malibu myself with 192K miles, and it’s been dependable with no major repairs yet.
@Blaine
Thanks for the heads-up! The dealer told me it’s 2 years or 100K miles left. Maybe they offer something extra? It is the 2.5L, no turbo, and no auto-stop. It’s pretty basic, doesn’t even have a backup camera. I’m planning to take a scanner on Monday to double-check everything. I’ve already seen the Carfax, and the maintenance looks solid. Really appreciate your help!
@Neve
Sounds like the dealer might be offering their own warranty or getting ready to pitch an extended one to you.
Good luck with everything!

That makes sense, thanks again!
