Hi there! I’m posting this for my father who is having issues with his work van. He’s pretty good with mechanics but could use some extra help since his usual mechanic buddies are too busy. Here’s what he described: it’s a 2001 Chevy Express with a 5.7-liter motor. There’s a no-start issue accompanied by backfiring on top of the motor. The EGR is clean, and there’s proper fuel pressure. He’s recently replaced the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap about 4 months ago. Any insight would be super appreciated!
Sounds like the distributor cap might have failed. Also, a worn or dirty throttle body could be an issue. It might be worth checking the timing chain too, just to make sure everything is still in sync.

Yeah, checking the timing is a good shout. Could save a lot of hassle if that’s the problem.
