Need help with my 2017 Chevy Cruze Hatchback... tech issues

Hi, I just joined this forum and I’m looking for some options before I take my car to the dealership to get looked at. I recently got a 2017 Chevy Cruze Hatchback that has Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, AUX, and USB. The USB port charges my phone but will not connect to Apple CarPlay. When my phone is charging, I press the Projection button and it says, ‘connect supported device to USB,’ even though it’s actively charging. The Bluetooth option is in the settings, but it won’t pair with any phone at all. Also, in the source menu, the options for USB, Bluetooth, and AUX are grayed out and won’t let me use them. I’ve reset the infotainment system, checked the fuses, and reset the radio settings, but I’m not sure what else to try before spending money at the dealership.

Make sure your phone isn’t connected to Bluetooth when trying to connect via USB. Also, check to see if CarPlay is activated in the car’s infotainment system. Using a good phone cable can also help.

Wow, how dumb. Modern vehicles can be really annoying sometimes. Why do they have to complicate things like this?

Now you may have probably already done this, but sometimes just unplugging the USB cable from both the car and your phone can work. It might actually be a phone issue and not the car.

I had this issue when I had my 2018 Spark. I took it to the dealership under warranty. All they did on three separate occasions was delete my phone from the car, factory reset the radio, and have me remove the radio from my phone. It worked for a few months, but then I had to do it all again. Eventually, it just started working. I wish I could be more help, but that was my experience. I even ordered a magic link for my 2020 Silverado RST to avoid the cable issues. You might want to look into that too.

If nobody has mentioned it yet, check how many devices have previously been saved in the unit. Sometimes the max is around 7-8 devices. Also, try unplugging the battery for 15 minutes to do a global reset. GM calls it that because it’s like restarting your phone. Make sure you have a good quality Apple cable too; the car can be picky about that. In my case, one USB worked for CarPlay, but the other didn’t. After I unplugged the battery overnight, everything started working fine again.

My daughter bought a 2015 Cruze and has a similar issue. The radio says Bluetooth is not accessible or something like that. I found out this is a very common problem with Chevy radios. The recommendations I kept seeing were to install an aftermarket radio because the Chevy radios are known to have issues.
