I don’t know much about Chevy, and I’m looking for some advice. I found a 2017 Malibu LT 1.5L with 49k miles priced at $13,500. Is this a good deal? How reliable are these cars, and how long do they last? Thanks in advance!
13.5k seems a bit high for a 2017 Malibu. It’s a decent car for daily commuting, and if it’s well maintained, you can easily get 150-200k miles out of it. But yeah, if the car wasn’t looked after, 50k could be rough miles. I’d suggest checking the Carfax report and maybe offering 10k or less.
@North
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check the Carfax and see if I can negotiate the price a bit.
Personally, I wouldn’t buy a Chevy that’s not a truck. GM’s passenger cars aren’t known for top-notch quality. Just my two cents

That’s fair, but the Malibu isn’t bad if you just need a simple A-to-B car. Not everyone’s looking for a luxury ride.
@North
True, true. As long as it gets the job done and the price is right.
I own a 2018 Malibu with the same engine, and I’ve had no issues at 34k miles. It’s been solid for me, but just FYI, when I checked a car-buying site, they offered me only $2,700 for it. The resale value might not be great.
@Joss
Yikes, that’s pretty low! Good to know about the resale value. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Before you make a decision, it’s a good idea to get a pre-purchase inspection. That way, you’ll know if there are any hidden issues. $13.5k might be OK if the car’s in great shape, but you don’t want any surprises.
@Quin
That’s smart, I’ll look into getting one done. Better safe than sorry!
It all depends on how well the previous owner took care of it. If it’s got regular service records and checks out fine, I’d say go for it. Just try to negotiate down a bit.

I’m definitely planning to negotiate. Thanks for the advice!
