What are the Issues with Chevy Malibu?

Hey Pals,

I’m having an issue with my Chevy Malibu where it keeps displaying a “Shift to Park” message even though the gear lever is already in the park position. This message is causing my car not to start sometimes, and I’m not sure what to do.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Any tips on how to fix it or what might be causing it?

Thanks in advance…

For many years, the Chevrolet Malibu has been a well-liked midsize sedan, but like many cars, it has problems from time to time. Transmission problems, like jerky shifting, delayed engagement, or total transmission failure, have been reported with several Malibu models, especially those manufactured between 2010 and 2015. There have also been reports of torque converter problems, which can cause tremors or trembling when accelerating. The Malibu’s different components are susceptible to electrical gremlins. There have been reports of problems such as intermittent electrical system failures, power steering issues, and window malfunctions.

First and foremost, make sure the automobile battery is properly charged and that the terminals are tidy and securely fastened. Poor connections or insufficient battery voltage might occasionally be the source of electronic problems such as these.

The “Shift to Park” error can be quite frustrating, and it’s usually linked to a malfunctioning park sensor within the shifter assembly.

Potential Solutions:

  • Check the Shifter: Make sure the shifter is fully engaged in the Park position. Sometimes, a minor adjustment can fix the problem.
  • Battery Check: A weak battery can cause electronic glitches, so ensure your battery is in good condition.
  • Professional Inspection: If the issue continues, it’s best to visit a mechanic for an accurate diagnosis. They can inspect the park sensor and other related components.
  • Temporary Workaround: If you’re comfortable with basic mechanical work, some have found temporary fixes by adjusting or bypassing the park sensor. However, this is not recommended unless you’re confident in your abilities.

It’s important to address this issue promptly to avoid potential safety risks and further inconvenience.

You’re not alone. Many Chevy Malibu owners have reported this frustrating issue. It’s often caused by a faulty park switch in the shifter assembly.

The start-stop feature is exceedingly inconvenient and promotes timing chain and engine wear. The Bluetooth refused to connect to my phone, so I used a Bluetooth FM transmitter, which revealed that the 12V plug lost power briefly when the door was opened.
