Cuz I ain’t paying $200 for a new key, buddy! My key fob is falling apart and I’m just not sure what to do. Anyone else dealt with this situation? What’s your go-to fix?
Go to eBay. Type in your car make and model and the words ‘fob shell’. Get that and swap the guts.

Nice tip! I didn’t even think of checking eBay. What’s the link?
eBay, Amazon, or just go down to AutoZone. They probably have one for $20.
I go to AliExpress for my key shells. They’re like $5 with a 2-3 week wait. Shipping has gotten better!

Wait, AliExpress? What’s that? Is it reliable?

Yeah, for the most part! Just takes a bit longer for shipping. I usually get the shells without the programming stuff, though.
Speaking from experience, have fun cutting the existing fob apart to get the PCB and the actual mechanical key out. It took me ages, lol.

Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare! I’d rather just pay the dealer at that point.
I replaced my MIL’s fobs for like $40. It wasn’t hard, and I didn’t need to cut anything.

What do you mean by ‘cut’? Is it complicated?

Nah, not really. Just means you have to switch the keys over, but you can find ones that are easier.
