What specific engine is this?

Could anyone identify the engine and recommend a clutch?

This engine is a 6.3L with a Holley carburetor and Edelbrock intake and heads, generating about 490 HP. The original clutch was a 270mm organic Borg & Beck, but it couldn’t handle the torque. It’s installed in a 1960 Jaguar C-Type Replica.

If it’s a 6.3, then it’s a 383 small block Chevy. Search for SBC prefixes and casting numbers, and you’ll find out where to look for the numbers that will help date the block. Keep in mind that the 383 isn’t a factory engine.

To clarify, there are now many options for factory-built crate motors at 383 cubic inches, but it was never available as a factory original displacement in any GM vehicle.

The Small Block Chevy has been offered in various displacements over the years. Many years ago, hot rodders discovered that by combining parts from different engines, they could create even more displacement options.

The “383 Stroker” is created by pairing the crank and rods from a 400 with the block and pistons from a 327 or 350, and it has been a popular modification among hot rodders since the 1970s.

It’s definitely a small block Chevy. If it’s 6.3L, it originally came from the factory as a 350.

It might just be a 350, or it could be a 377 or 383 as previously mentioned. Who claimed it was a 6.2?

Regardless, it looks great. Good luck!

It’s definitely a small block Chevy 350, possibly even more.
