Just purchased a new 2025 Chevy Trax ACTIV. Upon getting home and setting up our car seats, I was feeling between the upper and lower part of the rear seats and noticed some cables or wires running behind there. I got the car seats secured using the anchors (which are very accessible, by the way!). But now I’m curious—what are those wires for? Could they be powering the rear lights, or are they possibly audio wires?
Congrats on the new Trax! Those wires you’re feeling could definitely be related to audio, especially if you have rear speakers or a subwoofer in the cargo area. However, they might also be part of the car’s electrical system for the rear lights or even the rear seatbelt sensors, depending on how they’re routed.
@Finley
Thanks! That makes sense. I didn’t think about seatbelt sensors, but I’m pretty sure there’s a chime when the rear belts aren’t buckled.

Yeah, the seatbelt sensors are pretty common now. If your Trax has any advanced safety features like that, those wires could definitely be for the sensors.
If you’ve got the ACTIV trim, it might also have wiring for heated rear seats or additional lighting in the cargo area. That’s another possibility.

I don’t think I have heated rear seats, but it’s good to know that could be a possibility in some models. I’ll check the lights in the cargo area to see if that could be it.
Most likely, the wires are related to your audio system or rear lights. But like others have said, it could also be for seatbelt sensors or other features. If you’re really curious, you can always check with your dealership and see if they can confirm what those wires are for.
@Tan
Good idea, I’ll probably give them a call just to be sure. Thanks!
I’ve got a 2023 Chevy Trax and noticed something similar when I was installing our car seats. I think in my case it was audio wiring for the rear speakers, but I wouldn’t be surprised if newer models have more sensors and stuff back there.
@Blayne
That’s good to know! Sounds like it could definitely be audio wiring then. I’ll check to see where the rear speakers are in the ACTIV trim.
It’s pretty common for wires to run through that part of the car, especially for things like rear lights, speakers, or seatbelt sensors. As long as the car seats are set up properly and not interfering with the wiring, you should be good.
